In BC, the total cost to install a septic system can span different ranges depending on the system type, soil conditions, and property access.
What Affects the Cost of a Septic System?
Several factors determine the price of a septic system in BC:
- Soil conditions: Rocky or clay-heavy soil may require a more advanced or engineered system.
- System type:
- Gravity systems (Type 1)
- Pressurized or treatment systems (Type 2)
- Engineered systems (Type 3)
- Permitting and design: Required by law. Design, filing, and soil testing can add to your total.
- Location: Remote or steep properties may increase excavation and labour costs.
All septic systems in BC must be designed and installed by an Authorized Person, such as a Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner (ROWP) or Professional Engineer. Installing a system without proper filing and approval is illegal under the BC Sewerage System Regulation.
